The Monterey Symphony presents a special one-time experience, Overlapping Halos, on Monday, May 19th, 2025 at 5:00 PM at Sunset Center in Carmel. The concert is one hour with no intermission.
Overlapping Halos is part of Monterey Symphony's commitment to Music and Healing. On the heels of a panel discussion about Music and Wellness at Tonkin House (in partnership with Montage Health Foundation) the Symphony is broadcasting its desire to present unique opportunities for people to connect deeply with music. As one of the newest partners of Art Pharmacy, the Symphony is proud to present this collaboration with violinist Edwin Huizinga, Deva Munay, and Damaris (Penny Vieregge) that highlights the power and the hope that exists in this incredible troika of artists.
My grandmother (who is now 97!) has spent a lifetime learning, performing and sharing. This is the perfect culmination of her talents. It brings our family joy and pride to see her gifts expressed so beautifully. Deva, Edwin and Penny will surprise and delight you! Overlapping Halos is a joyful and one-of-a-kind experience. This project is a collaboration that was born out of a desire to connect through sound, music, and poetry during the isolation of the pandemic. Under a flowering plum tree in Big Sur Canyon and then on a ranch overlooking the Santa Lucia Mountains, the three artists discovered the interconnectedness which already exists.
The Divine intelligence moving through all creatures is sparked by the illumination of creative projects such as Overlapping Halos. Damaris (Penny Vieregge) shares the poetry of Hafiz, as translated by Daniel Ladinsky, Edwin improvises on violin, while Deva quietly supports it all with alchemy crystal singing bowls.
This concert benefits the Symphonys work in schools and classrooms, sending musicians to enhance learning and inspire.
